Facility monitoring, equipment cooling, and energy management are vital for server rooms and data centres to operate smoothly. The facility's condition and equipment are crucial for data centre reliability and availability. Early identification of potential issues, such as temperature and humidity levels, is essential to prevent major problems.
Proper equipment cooling prevents equipment failure and costly downtime. Effective energy management is critical in controlling costs and minimising environmental impact. We can provide full support for data centre facilities and equipment with a comprehensive product portfolio.
Data Centre Infrastructure
There are many moving parts and components in play to keep data centres running smoothly. Several parameters including pressure, flow, level & and temperature require constant sever room monitoring and controlling to ensure optimal performance and up-time.
Pressure Sensing for Cooling Systems & Circuits
Our capacitive sensing technology and long history of high quality products gives reliable, high accuracy pressure measurement. Our stainless steel diaphragms are compatible with all refrigerants and can measure gauge, absolute or differential pressure. Common models include:
- Model 264 differential pressure sensor for very low pressure measurements. This is the standard 'go-to' solution for any low DP measuring requirements.
- Model MR1/MR2 multi-range differential pressure sensors to help optimise data centre performance, protect equipment and maintain a controlled environment.
- Model 269 high accuracy differential pressure sensor for critical environments with tamper-proof calibration and DINrail mounting for quick installation.
- Model 230 true wet-to-wet differential pressure sensor with a single SS diaphragm for fast response times and NEMA4 enclosure for point-of-use on coolant tanks and fire suppression systems.
- Model 256 robust single point pressure sensor with a NEMA4X housing for extra protection against water and dust ingress.
- Model AXD industrial low-cost pressure sensor with an IP67 rated enclosure, optional high overpressure protection to help with water hammer effects, such as on refrigeration lines, liquid pumps and pneumatic setups.
Room Pressure Monitors for Environmental Status Readings
Enhance your data centres performance with our advanced room pressure monitors. Maintain optimal conditions, prevent equipment damage and avoid costly downtime. Trust our reliable solutions to keep your critical infrastructure running smoothly. Our solutions include:
- LITE room visual pressure indicator for differential pressure monitoring. This is the standard 'modern' solution for any critical environment that requires pressure monitoring.
- FLEX environmental monitor and controller. This is the 'all-in-one' package for integrating all other sensors that measure pressure, humidity, temperature, particle count, velocity, door status, occupancy and more, for a complete server room environmental monitoring solution.

Additional temperature and humidity controllers are essential for data centres, preserving equipment integrity and preventing data loss by maintaining optimal environmental conditions. We can offer West Control Solutions comprehensive range of temperate and humidity controllers to support your needs. Our solutions include:
- SRH relative humidity measurement and server room temperature monitors in wall, duct and outdoor mounting configurations.
- P6100 temperature and process controllers.
Types of Data Centres
There are several types of data centres that exist as market solutions, including:
- Cocolation Data Centres - also referred to as "carrier hotels", is a specific type of data centre where space, equipment and bandwidth are all available for rental to retail customers.
- Managed Services Data Centres - are managed by a third-party on behalf of another company, which is leased (equipment and infrastructure) rather than purchased/owned.
- Enterprise Data Centres - which are built, owned and operated by companies ready for their own end users (often found on-site).
- Cloud Data Centres - are the off-premise form of data centres and typically hosted by cloud service providers, such as AWS, Microsoft, Google or another.
Despite there being several official labels for these data centres, all are built and operating in similar ways, with requirements for the same kind of components to function as needed.
Server Farm System Examples
Server farms exist all over the world, whether they are dedicated buildings or sections of buildings, and each houses computer servers. In the US alone there are c. 3 million data centres (and counting). Out of these 3 million, approximately 0.1% are 'large scale' data centres, whilst the rest are smaller server rooms (eg. in businesses or offices).
Our components are being used in data centres to monitor numerous integral processes, including:
- Refrigeration lines
- Liquid cooling system pumps
- Coolant tanks
- Fire suppression systems
- Rooftop air conditioning equipment
- Mechanical rooms
- Backup and standby power systems
Hot aisle containment is a special application study and is essentially a layout system for computing equipment in data centres. The aim of this system is to conserve energy and decrease cooling costs by managing the air flow (not letting the hot and cold air mix) for optimum efficiency.
