When it comes to using pressure sensors in certain applications and industries, sometimes a 3.1 material certificate becomes a ‘must-have’ requirement. At Boiswood, we are very familiar with handling such requirements and often utilise our ever-popular AXD industrial pressure sensor for applications needing 3.1 certification.
AXD Industrial Pressure Sensors
The model AXD pressure sensor, built with Accusense™ technology, is designed for Industrial and OEM customers who require high performance, reliability and versatility at an excellent price point. It offers exceptional ±0.25% FS accuracy for pressure ranges as low as 1 PSI up to 10,000 PSI to meet a multitude of demanding applications. The AXD features all stainless steel wetted materials including 17-4 PH SS when ordered as "AXD1" or 316L SS when ordered as "AXDH".
The AXD’s capacitive sensor design offers end users with test & measurement grade accuracy at a low affordable price point. The unit offers expanded performance through thermal compensation, bringing the TEB to <1.5% FS, enforcing that this solution is designed and built to withstand rugged applications. The industrial non-oil filled construction, designed with a patented overpressure stop, enables the sensor to recover from overpressure conditions up to 8X the rated range. The AXD’s capacitive technology offers worry free operation vs. oil-filled MEMS designs, which have a high cost of failure if oil leaks into the application and contaminates costly equipment.

Pressure Sensors with 3.1 Certification
We can offer our AXD pressure sensors with 3.1 material certification on request. These 3.1 inspection certificates are fully traceable to your individual units and include chemical analysis and physical property details.
We are fully aware that these certificates are required in certain applications/industries and can react to your requirements quickly. For more information on how we can support you with certification requirements, please get in touch with us along with the details of the unit configurations you are interest in.
Alongside meeting certification requirements, these pressure sensors have been rigorously factory tested to ensure they can withstand some of the harshest operating conditions. Check out of video below to see the AXD put through its paces and a comparison compared to leading competing brands:
Capacitance Pressure Sensing Technology
Capacitance type pressure sensors are regularly favoured by high volume OEM specialty applications. Detecting the capacitance change between two surfaces allows these sensors to measure very low pressure and even vacuum levels (using compound pressure datums). In our typical pressure sensor configuration, a compact housing contains two closely space, parallel, electrically isolated metallic surfaces, one of which is essentially a diaphragm capable of slight flexing under pressure. These firmly secured surfaces (or plates) are mounted so that the flexing of the assembly alters the gap between them (creating, in effect, a variable capacitor). The resulting change is detected by a sensitive linear comparator circuit with (or ASICs) which amplifies and outputs a proportional high-level signal.

Where are Pressure Sensors used?
The AXD pressure sensor is a rugged pressure sensor built for the most demanding industrial applications. Some of the areas we have helped to cover include:
- Alternative Fuel and Renewable Energy – with an ever-increasing demand for energy across the globe, there is constantly requirements for developing renewable and non-petroleum based energy sources. The robust safety design and compliant specifications of the AXD sensor means it is suitable to work in any alternative fuel application, examples including motive power & fuel cells, hydrogen production & storage and power generation.
- Rail/Train & Transportation – we have worked with several locomotive manufacturers over the years, which helped to design some of the specifications on the AXD. The excellent stability, high operating temperature range and ultra-low pressure sensing capabilities makes the AXD a perfect choice for rail applications including braking systems and train engine pressure sensing.
- HVAC/R – when dependability matters, Setra are one of the world’s most renowned and trusted HVAC/R pressure sensor manufacturers. The wide operating temperature ranges and very small form factors (compact design) makes the AXD an ideal solution for store/supermarket refrigeration systems and many other HVAC system pressure sensing needs.
- Specialty Vehicles – the sensors wide pressure range, patented overpressure design and low price points make this unit a great option for any specialty use vehicles including firetrucks and pumps, military vehicles and street sweepers.
